Wall Street On Sale
For those of you interested in how this new book differs from the other 'Buffett'
books on the market, the following is the skinny from author
Timothy Vick:
Dear Jim:
Thanks for your interest in my book. I think the main difference between Wall Street on
Sale and the other Buffett books is that mine contains a lot more substance than
biographical material. I, too, have read most of the published literature on Buffett and
found them lacking in detail. Being that they are mostly written by journalists (I am an
analyst), these books tended to spend too much time talking about Buffett and not enough
about finance.
If you are looking a parallel, my book will come closer to David Dreman's Contrarian
Investment Strategies rather than the Buffetts books out there. While Buffett is mentioned
prominently throughout my book, the main focus is value investing and, as such, walks
investors through all the main tenets and strategies that Buffett, Gabelli, Price, Dreman,
Neff and others have used. There are detailed chapters dealing with:
- How to construct a value-portfolio
- How to compare stocks to bonds
- How to value companies quickly and simply
- The role dividends play in investing
- How to measure intangibles
- Why and how markets are inefficient and how to take advantage of it
- The track record of famous value-oriented managers
- The studies validating value investing
- How to interpret financial ratios correctly
The final chapter is exclusively about Buffett and condenses his track record into 10
simple strategies.
The appendix lists 150-200 websites you can use to find all your raw financial information
for free.
I think the book will greatly benefit investment club members-many of whom I have as
clients. The CEO of the NAIC, Kenneth Janke, has given a nice endorsement of the book on
the cover.
